Varanasi – Congress & Priyanka Vadra

With the just concluded round of verbal volleys and interesting tweets as well as press statements from Congress leaders, Surjewala, Rahul Gandhi and the newbie General Secretary Incharge of eastern UP, Priyanka Gandhi, the finals of showdown in Varanasi aka Banaras aka Kashi has already been decided. Though, the results seem to be obvious at this stage, we need to be evaluate them based on the way the Mahagathbandhan, Congress and BJP play their cards in the Politics of Votebank and appeasement. Though Modi’s Roadshow by BJP was evident enough to represent the Tsunami and landslide victory that would be assuring for BJP, still the way forward is still left to guess work by the way the campaigns would lead to polling.

However, in this article, we evaluate the turn of events and the cause & effect relationship of Priyanka Vadra raising a question “Why not Varanasi?” when she was asked if she would represent Rae Barelli for that matter by a party worker. It was an interesting aspect that was a curtain raiser for the drama that unfolded for next 15 days. From where I see “why was that done?” I find that it was to trigger insecurity aspect for Narendra Modi for Kashi Constituency and to check if he gets nominated from an alternate constituency just like her Brother Rahul Gandhi filed from a suspected “Safe Heaven Wayanad”. Congress albeit played that suspense thriller for quite sometime with no favorable result and Narendra Modi filing only from Kashi with the confidence that showed up a day before with the Tsunami of Support he garnered.

Then I remember reading about Rahul Gandhi vetoing Priyanka Vadra’s candidature from Kashi specifically to highlight that Good Opposition should be elected to Parliament that would help run democracy. the Article was praising Rahul Gandhi’s (sic) wisdom and I could sense a paid work on that article (hence no link to that article).

Then came another news that Sonia Gandhi had her own set of reservations on Priyanka Vadra’s candidature but I couldn’t dwell in the details; rather didn’t want to dwell in details to this effect as the candidature story was getting stale anyways and I was sure She wouldn’t be filing nomination from any constituency for that matter. It became more of inconsequential quest where Congress media cell now had to find a viable option to chicken out for Priyanka Vadra’s candidature.

Then the Showdown Tsunami came in the way with Narendra Modi’s Road show a day before filing nomination with at least a million reported to have participated in the roadshow and many more glued to the television sets for 5 hours of telecast proving the NAMO wave sweeping through the sentiments of citizens across the nation. This sealed the fate of Priyanka Vadra’s candidature from Kashi and Congress found out the reason to not let their “Charismatic Star Campaigner” focus on a lost battle as they think that with Priyanka Vadra coming into foray, the Grand Old Party found a lifeline to survive these General Elections and be prepared for the UP State Election couple of years down the line.

So, the candidature of Priyanka Gandhi was just a false alarm to unsettle BJPs mission 2019; but seems BJP outsmart Congress in that field and won the round one of the Volley.
