On Social Media, I often come across folks who are mostly boasting on their knowledge, experience and skills. However, if you poke them more, they turn out to be exposing themselves and prove that they are nothing more than a baloon of gas.
Not that I look down upon them, but then they do certainly look down upon “You” aka others in general. For them, since they achieved some Industry Certifications, they think they are the epitome of success and knowledge. Nothing else can be bigger than that ego for the industry today is a fast paced phenomenon. What was relevant yesterday may not be relevant tomorrow and “What Got You Here, Wouldn’t Help you Get Forward”.
learning for that matter is an ongoing process and in today’s dynamics has become an integral part of the Corporate Lifestyle. I have met many CxOs in my Corporate Journey and most of them have been very down to earth folks with an eye for detail and ear for listening. Most of them called it a part of their learning process. they listen to the team that they work with, they listen to the vendors and consultants, they attend industry round table conference and they listen to various podcasts as well as webinars. All this is while they are running the show for their respective organizations.
However, when I happen to meet some social media experts on technology, I learn how not to Showoff the knowledge across and rather try to share the knowledge to help fellow & likeminded SM enthusiasts with what knowledge and experience I have derived during my journey. A healthy exchange of such cases when the fellows also share their points and when they ask relevant questions help me to dive deeper and get more in the context that discussion is held.
For me, while SM is a great tool to enhance own knowledge and share what is acquired knowledge, what is in NOT is the ground to ShowOff certifications and acquired knowledge. While “Aham Brahmasmi” is very good “self respeting” and “Self Realization” statement, using that to push own Ego is a strict no no.
